5 secrets of the perfect mulled wine
5 secrets of the perfect mulled wine

Mulled wine is a real symbol of New Year and Christmas holidays all over the world. It perfectly warms and with its aroma alone creates a unique atmosphere of celebration and magic.

Add spices correctly

When preparing mulled wine, do not rush to add ground spices. Ingredients should give the wine their aroma and subtle taste, and not interfere with enjoying the drink, every now and then gritting their teeth.

Wine and fruit separately

The drink will be even tastier if you heat the wine in one saucepan, and the fruits and spices, filled with a small amount of juice or water, in another.

At the end of cooking, you can either add strained fruit-spicy syrup to the already hot wine, or lay out the fruits and spices without filtering, let it brew a little, and only then strain. Another secret: if you add citrus fruits with zest, you do not need to infuse the drink for a long time - it may start to taste bitter.

Warming up the wine

Do not bring the wine to a boil - the alcohol will evaporate and the drink will look like a compote. It is best to heat mulled wine over low heat until a slight haze appears on the surface, after which you can proceed to the next stage - filtration. And one more important nuance - it is best to take dry wine for mulled wine.

We filter

Don't forget to filter the mulled wine. Firstly, this will make the wine more transparent, and secondly, the presence of individual ingredients that will get into your mouth every now and then will prevent you from enjoying the taste. In addition, remaining in the glass, all fruits and spices will continue to give their taste to the wine, and there is a possibility that the drink will eventually become too concentrated and tasteless.

We serve

The supply of mulled wine is just as important as the process of making it. Regular wine glasses will not work. If you do not have special glasses for mulled wine, it is better to use simple tall mugs. This will add a special coziness.

Among the many variations of this winter drink, we have selected 3 simple and affordable recipes. Of course, you can slightly change the recipe to your taste or create your own, unique and no less tasty
