Contrary to popular belief, many children with Down syndrome attend regular schools. And some of them, growing up, get higher education and even, if they are lucky, find a job and a calling. Today, the editorial office of Interesting to know will tell you 7 touching stories about the strength, courage and determination of people who are somewhat less fortunate in this life than us.
Katie Higgins - Zumba Trainer
The Yorkshire native is 23 years old. She began doing zumba with her mother in order to cope with depression after the loss of her brother who died from cancer. Coach Katie began to notice something special about the girl. "I just watched, amazed," admits Mary Higgins, "since then nothing could stop Katie." She passed the Zumba instructor exam 5 years ago and now teaches in college and church.
Zhu-zhu - conductor
And the story of Zhu-zhu is completely amazing. Born in the Chinese city of Wuhan, the boy could not even give his name. The fact is that the coefficient of his intelligence is only 30% of the coefficient of people with normal development. But despite this fact, he is a talented conductor. Zhu-zhu is the only conductor in the world who does not read notes, but memorizes melodies, barely hearing them. The young genius grew up in an atmosphere filled with music. Little Zhu-zhu's favorite pastime was attending rehearsals of his father, a cellist, in a symphony orchestra. The boy could spend hours enjoying the music and repeating the conductor's movements. Once a member of the orchestra noticed how Zhu-zhu was "conducting" and invited him to try it for real. The conductor held out his baton to the boy, and the orchestra obeyed him.
Noelia Garella - kindergarten teacher
Noelia works as a kindergarten teacher. The girl also has a bachelor's degree in economics and management. “I don't feel any prejudice about me. When I first started working, both parents and children were happy. We give children milk, lunch and snacks, we have a lot of fun at school,”says Noelia herself.
Tim Harris - Restaurant Owner
Tim is the only restaurant owner in the world with Down syndrome. The young man himself calls his establishment "the friendliest in the world." And this is not surprising. Delicious dishes and a warm atmosphere with which guests are welcomed attract many. Among the restaurant's guests was even Barack Obama himself, who once dropped by Tim's for lunch.
Madeleine Stewart - model
The girl is only 18 years old, but she has already gone down in history as one of the world's first models with Down syndrome. Madeleine takes her profession very seriously, she even threw off a couple of kilograms on the way to her dream. The girl participated in New York Fashion Week in 2015. And we are sure that this is only the beginning of a brilliant career.
Angela Bachiller - City Councilor
Angela by her example proves that people with genetic disabilities are no different from other members of society and have the same rights as others. The woman, despite all the prejudices, has been holding public office since 2013 and is actively involved in political activities.
Pablo Pineda - actor
Pablo is the first person in the history of Europe to receive a higher education. But he became known to the world thanks to his role in the film "Me too". The young man played a university graduate with Down syndrome, very much like Pablo himself.
