47-year-old American Donato Di Camillo spent 10 years in prison and only when he was freed did what he dreamed of all these years - photography. During his time in prison, his hometown, New York, has changed a lot. Donato took to the streets and did not recognize his city. Then he decided that he had to show New York as he sees it.

Even before prison, the man was fond of photography and spent hours looking at footage from famous magazines.

He was released in 2011 on the condition that he remains under house arrest for another three years. He had a lot of time to learn all the secrets of famous photographers.

When, in 2014, the term of his arrest came to an end, the man went out into the street and began filming people like him.

The heroes of his photographs are ordinary people from a low layer, whom we usually do not notice or do not want to notice.

“I've read a lot about human behavior and psychology. I realized that I had some knowledge that could help me navigate the diverse personalities of the New York street world. I also have that knowledge about the collective unconscious of the social bottom of New York, which is needed in order to capture the very juice of New York streets in their personal expression,”said Donato.
